Go-Stop Rules (Matgo)

Go-Stop is the most popular Korean card game played with hwatu (flower cards). This implementation uses 2-player Matgo rules including the most common house rules (Heundeul, Bomb, Ppeok / Ttadak / Jjok, Sweep, and the bak penalties).

48 hwatu cards (4 per month, Jan-Dec; types include Gwang / Yeol / Tti / Pi). Gwang cards exist in Jan / Mar / Aug / Nov / Dec. Whether the Dec Gwang (Bi-gwang) is included changes the 3-Gwang score.

• Gwang (Lights) — 3 lights = 3 pts (2 pts if Bi-gwang is included). 4 lights = 4 pts. 5 lights = 15 pts.
• Tti (Ribbons) — 5 ribbons = 1 pt, +1 per extra. Blue / Red / Plant (same-color trio) = +3 each.
• Kkeut (Animals) — 5 animals = 1 pt, +1 per extra. Godori (3 birds) = +5.
• Pi — 10 pi = 1 pt, +1 per extra. Double-pi count as 2.

• Go / Stop — At 7+ points declare "Go" to continue (multipliers stack: x2 from the 3rd Go onward) or "Stop" to settle.
• Heundeul (x2) — Reveal 3 same-month cards in your starting hand for a x2 multiplier.
• Bomb (x2 + 1 pt) — Drop 3 same-month cards in one turn and flip an extra deck card. +1 pt and x2 multiplier on settle.
• Ppeok / Ttadak / Jjok — Ppeok (match 2 at once): steal 1 Pi + 1 pt. Ttadak (2 Ppeoks): another +1 pt. Jjok (drop on empty space then flip its match): +1 Pi + 1 pt.
• Sweep — Empty the table on your turn: +1 pt and steal 1 Pi.
• Bak (x2) — On Stop, if the opponent lacks Gwang / Pi / Kkeut their respective Bak applies — each is an additional x2.
• Nagari — If the deck runs out before anyone reaches 7 pts, the round is voided and the next round carries a x2 multiplier.

When you Stop, your score (with multipliers) is paid in chips by the loser. The match ends when someone runs out of chips, or after the configured number of rounds — whoever has the most chips wins.
