Overview
A Korean-style poker played with twenty Hwatu cards from months 1 through 10. Two-card hands are ranked, and reading bluffs through the betting matters as much as the cards.
Components
Twenty Hwatu cards (two cards from each of months 1-10). Chips or score markers for betting.
Hand ranking (highest first)
- 38-Gwangttang — March Gwang + August Gwang. The top hand.
- 13-Gwangttang — January Gwang + March Gwang.
- 18-Gwangttang — January Gwang + August Gwang.
- Ttang (10-Ttang … 1-Ttang) — A pair from the same month. Higher month wins.
- Ali — January + February. The strongest non-Ttang hand.
- Doksa — January + April.
- Gupping — January + September.
- Jangpping — January + October.
- Jangsa — April + October.
- Seryuk — April + June.
- Kkeut (9-Kkeut … 1-Kkeut) — Sum of the two cards' last digit. 9 is strongest, 0 (Mangttong) is the weakest.
Betting actions
- Call — Match the previous bet and continue.
- Raise — Bet more than the previous wager. The next player must call, raise, or fold.
- Fold — Drop out of the round. Chips already in the pot are forfeited.
Winning
After betting ends, players reveal their hands. The highest-ranked hand wins the pot. In a series, the player with the most chips at the end is the overall winner.
