One Night Werewolf Rules

One Night Werewolf | 3-7 players | ~10 min

Overview

A super-fast hidden-role game played in a single round (night → day → vote). Night actions shuffle the role cards around, then a brief discussion and simultaneous vote decide who the Werewolves are.

Roles (MVP set, 8)

  • 🐺 WerewolfWolf team. Sees the other Werewolves. If they are the only wolf, may peek at one center card.
  • 😈 MinionWolf team but counts as a human card. Sees the wolves; the wolves do not see the Minion.
  • 🔮 SeerLook at one player's card OR two of the center cards.
  • 🦝 RobberSwap cards with another player, then look at the new role.
  • 🤹 TroublemakerSwap two other players' cards (without looking).
  • 🍺 DrunkSwap your card with one center card without looking.
  • 👀 InsomniacAt the end of the night, check your own final card.
  • 🧑‍🌾 VillagerNo action.

Night Action Order

  1. Werewolves ↔ identify each other
  2. Minion ← see the Werewolves
  3. Seer → peek at a card
  4. Robber → swap and check the new role
  5. Troublemaker → swap two other players
  6. Drunk → swap with a center card
  7. Insomniac → check own final card

Once every action is submitted, the day phase begins automatically. The host can force the phase forward.

Win Conditions

  • If at least one Werewolf dies (based on final cards) → village wins.
  • If no Werewolf dies → wolves win. (Killing the Minion does not count as a village win.)
  • If the final board has zero Werewolves and no one is killed → village wins.

Tips

  • If the Robber steals a Werewolf card, they become a wolf — they act on their new role.
  • Swapping two Werewolves with the Troublemaker accomplishes nothing. Always swap at least one non-wolf.
  • The Drunk has no idea what they became — they could now be a Werewolf.
  • If the Seer sees a Werewolf in the two center cards, that is strong information that 0 or 1 wolves are still on the board.
